Asian Football - Japan qualify for World Cup

Asian champions Japan became the first side to qualify for the World Cup finals in Brazil when plamaker Keisuke Honda scored an injury time penalty to claim a 1-1 draw with Australia in Saitama on Tuesday.

Alberto Zaccheroni's side needed a point to book their place in the tournament for the fifth consecutive time.
Tommy Oar put Australia ahead in Saitama before Honda netted a dramatic penalty in the first minute of injury time to see the hosts progress from Asia Group B.
Japan equalled their best ever showing at the World Cup when they reached the last 16 of the competition in 2010.
The draw meant that Japan were assured of one of the top two positions in Group B with a game to spare.
